This 12-lesson course was also adapted from the Healthy Image of Sex curriculum, which has been successfully implemented in schools, churches, and other youth-serving organizations. The adaption was designed specifically for Special Needs students. Research failed to reveal the existence of a sexual risk avoidance curriculum for Special Needs students rendering this the first of its kind. The overall goal of the course is to define healthy as it pertains to relationships, sex, marriage, and family. Using a variety of activities to realistically relate to Special Needs children, the curriculum provides students with information impacting their lives for years to come. It also teaches Special Needs children how to recognize and avoid sexual abuse.
